Sharks wind up season 2008
Tuesday 23rd of December, 2008

2008 was a bittersweet years for the Sharks. After the success of 2007, the Sharks started strongly in the metro season but were unable to defend their title, going down to the OC Jets in a tightly contested grand final. Several members of the Sharks, including coach John Fragomeni, also formed part of the OC Bombers who had a very successful home and away season, defeating nationally ranked opponents in Golden Gate and San Diego. Unfortunately, the Bombers performance at the national championships in Colorado Springs was disappointing, with the A team failing to register a win; the B team notching one victory.
The SCAFL season was brought to a close on Saturday night in Long Beach, with the annual Bombers Ball. Sharks, and Bombers head coach John Fragomeni, presented the awards to members of the SCAFL community, recognizing the performances of respective individuals over the course of the year, both in the metro season, as well as in the combined OC Bombers campaign. A number of Sharks received awards on the night, with these listed below:
Runner-up Best and Fairest: Simon Sweeney
Best Utility: Paul Lindley
Best Clubman: Jason Bottrell

I would like to take the opportunity at this point to thank all members of the Beachside Sharks for their involvement in the year. I also encourage all returning players and potential new players to check this site for updates in the next few weeks regarding practice and other upcoming events. New players and supporters are very welcome and can contact me at simon_sweeney@yahoo.com
