With a beautiful Southern California day ahead 4 teams made their way to
the picturesque grounds of Cal State Dominguez Hills for the round one clash
of the SCAFL season.
Game one saw the defending premiers, the Beachside Sharks, taking on the
Orange County Jets who are never to be underestimated.
From the opening bounce the Sharks took full control of the match....well for the first
10 minutes. The Jets gained their composure and clawed their way back into the match.
It was a tough first game of the SCAFL season with a few lead changes and lots of
1 percenters from both clubs. In the end the Sharks came out the victors by 7 points.
New players to the league from both clubs left their mark on the game.
The second game saw the LA Swans, sporting their new strip, take on the Riverside Raiders.
This was a lopsided match from the first bounce with LA running rings around the Raiders in the
first quarter. The second term seen the Raiders run out with a different, more attacking attitude
and it showed on the scoreboard. But the undermanned Raiders, with no forward target, ran out
of legs and the Swans notched their first win for the season quiet comfortably. On a positive note
for the Raiders their fullback played one hell of a game!
